Medical Detectives: help us with the diagnosis for Iris!

Many people live with pain or other physical symptoms without knowing the cause of these problems. AVROTROS is making a new television show for these people: Medical Detectives. And we need your help with that.

The tv show

Together with the patient we will search for the right diagnosis and effective treatment. To do this, we will need everyone’s help who might recognize the patient’s symptoms or knows more about the clinical picture and a possible treatment.

The patient

Since 2017, the 28-year-old Dutch female has a tingling sensation and numbness in both legs with regular muscle pain, cramps and involuntary movements. She also experiences a burning feeling in her feet and calves, which later on spreads to both legs. She currently has a burning pain in both legs (NRS 8) and a tingling and burning feeling in all fingers (NRS 6).

  • Neurological examination: sensitivity and mobility are normal. EMG normal, MRI spine; no abnormalities. Physical examination internist: normal, no Lyme disease.
  • Abnormal lab values: Vitamin B12 87; Creat 95; Folic acid 5.8; Cytomegalovirus IgG pos; Borreliose IgG pos.
